A Letter From Our President

Welcome to Bridgewater Little League! I am very excited to welcome you to our 2007 season and our new website! For those who may not know me, I became involved with Bridgewater Little League, four years ago when I volunteered to coach one of my sons T- Ball team. I was hooked from the beginning and have continued coaching his teams as well as my other son’s. I was one of those parents who wanted to help in any way possible and volunteer to help kids learn the game, have fun and grow as kids. I truly love coaching, seeing the kid’s progress over the years and it has been a wonderful experience.

This is my second year serving on the Board of Directors for Bridgewater Little League. Little did I know that I would become President, after all, I only stepped out of the room for a matter of minutes All kidding aside, I am honored to hold this position on a board alongside other members who provide a wealth of knowledge and who bring a fresh perspective. We have been very busy since the election, analyzing the many successes of our league, identifying areas we can improve upon and sharing new ideas. We are committed to ensuring that Bridgewater Little League be a positive experience for players, parents, coaches and fans. Please remember we are all “volunteers” and putting our best efforts forward. Many ask me how I find the time and why I was willing to serve as President. The answer is quite simple, “The smiles on the kids faces is a reward greater than you could imagine and provides me with an unmatched sense of fulfillment.”

In order to provide a positive experience for the youth of our league, we need your help and support! Whether coaching, supporting one of our fundraising efforts, volunteering at clean up day or working the snack bar – please consider joining us in our efforts and help our league run smooth and cost effectively.

Our greatest need for assistance is the snack bar. In past years, we were very fortunate that the League President and Vice President dedicated countless hours of their time manning the grill, managing the snack bar and coordinating the volunteer schedule, in addition to their other league duties. This is a huge gap that we need to fill. While many leagues adopt a policy that “requires” all parents to work one or two shifts throughout the season or pay an “opt out” fee up to $50 per child, we do not want to take any drastic steps before determining if we can somehow fill this gap. Bridgewater Little League has nearly 850 players – if every parent worked just one shift per season the snack bar would easily remain in full swing, providing the much needed funds to keep registration costs low and cover the costs of field maintenance, utilities and expenses. NOTE: We do not expect you to work the snack bar when your child is playing, there are plenty of games throughout the league and we are confident you can find a time when your child is not playing.

In addition to the snack bar, we have our annual calendar sale and raffles to additionally supplement the league funds that we encourage you to support.

Parents and Fans - : Please realize that we are all volunteers and have been working very hard during the off season so that your children have a positive experience. We encourage your suggestions; however we hope you will find a way to do this positively. The Bridgewater Little League Board of Directors is counting on you to lead by example and demonstrate good sportsmanship on and off the field, resist any temptation you may have to criticize your child and other children on their team, opposing team, coaches, board members, umpires and all in attendance at the games. If you have a concern, please take appropriate action and always feel free to address your concern with myself or any member of the Board. While it is not mandatory that you sign and return it this year, please visit the parent section where you will find the Little League Sports Code of Conduct.

Communication is a great tool and one that will keep us all well informed. We have updated our website to include schedules, contact information, announcements and much more! Additionally, we added an email feature that will allow you to register to receive email updates and notices. You must sign up on the website to be included in this.

Bridgewater Little League was proud to honor former President, Bob Stearns for his long tenure as president and regional representative at our Opening Day Celebration. Bob proudly served the league for many years, long after his own children were not in the league. Thank you Bob!

I am looking forward to a great season! On behalf of myself and the Board of Directors, have a fun, safe and enjoyable season.

Sincerely,

Alex MacKinnon
BLL President
